The powers that be over at The Simpsons appear to be going at it like Itchy and Scratchy over whether or not the long-running animated comedy has any more life in it.

Danny Elfman, the composer who brought us the blessed Simpsons theme song, sent fans into a panic after saying on a podcast that the series was “coming to an end.”

“From what I’ve heard it will be coming to an end,” said Elfman. “I don’t know for a fact, but I’ve heard that it will be in its last year.”

He went on to say that he’s surprised the show has been successful.

“I’m so flabbergasted and amazed that it has lasted as long as it did … you have to realise, when I scored The Simpsons, I wrote this crazy piece of music, and I expected no one would hear it, because I really did not think the show had a chance in hell.”

His quotes spread across the internet like wildfire, as these kinds of quotes tend to do, forcing showrunner AI Jean to interrupt his thanksgiving feast and debunk the rumours via Twitter.

“We are all thankful the following article is NOT TRUE,” he wrote.

In February it was announced that The Simpsons was renewed for two more seasons on Fox.

The beloved series is also currently streaming on Disney+ to jump on to relive the greatest moments from Mr. Burns being shot to Maggie’s first word.
