SWEET MERCIFUL CRAP: ‘Simpsons’ Genius Matt Groening Is Comin’ To Visit Us

Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, is coming to Australia for the very first time for the sixth GRAPHIC festival at the Sydney Opera House.

He’s coming with cartoonist Lynda Barry for the festival, which takes place on the 4th and 5th of November this year.

“The most intense Simpsons fanatics I’ve met are from Australia, so I’m coming to Sydney to check out all you lunatics,” Groening said ahead of his Australian debut. “I’m going to share stories of the making of The Simpsons and show embarrassing home movies and rarely-seen animation, including oddball outtakes and uncensored Itchy & Scratchy cartoons.”

Sounds like a good time. Ben Marshall, GRAPHIC co-curator, says that the fest has been chasing Groening to appear for six years – and the bloke rarely makes appearances outside the U.S. so this is a fairly large deal.
GRAPHIC also features chats with First Dog on the Moon, Michael Leunig and a screening of George Lucas‘s sci-fi classic THX 1138 with a live score by Asian Dub Foundation. Get amongst!
