The 1st Love Island AU Teaser Shows Mermaid Sophie Monk & Hot Singles Eating Vegemite Sangas

Love Island UK is all the rage right now and everyone’s living for the petty, cringey drama, but if you’ve been missing hearing the word “banter” a million times from Aussie lips, then you’re in luck, because Love Island Australia 2021 is on its way.

The official Love Island Australia Instagram dropped a teaser vid that shows a bunch of hot singles, along with host Sophie Monk who’s dressed as a flute-playing mermaid.

The teaser features the iconic song ‘Down Under’ by Men At Work and at the part where it goes, “He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich,” a bikini clad gal legit eats a Vegemite sandwich that’s been cut into the shape of Australia. It’s visual poetry, really.

Have a peek at the Love Island Australia teaser below:

I have no idea if the hot as fuck people in the video are actually contestants, or if they’re just promo models who were hired to dance around the pool for the Love Island Australia teaser.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the latter was the case, to be honest, because apparently the producers had a hell of a time casting singles for the show.

According to an episode of the So Dramatic! podcast, the Love Island Australia producers were so despo to find talent, that they ended up swanning around Bondi cafes, asking local hot people to pls pls pls sign up.

They also took their poaching to the ‘gram. A model phoned in to the podcast and revealed that they’ve been sliding into her DMs and pestering her. Then after she said ‘fuck no’, they called up her agent and told them that she should defs do it as it would be a great career move, so her agent fobbed producers off.

The podcast also reported that a bunch of ex reality stars were approached to join the show, including The Bachelor stars Leilani VakaahiLaura CalleriShannon Karaka and Nick Chamberlain, along with Newcastle Knights player Connor Watson and meme queen Winnie Blues.

They’ve also put out several Instagram call-outs, asking folks to apply, writing: “Know someone who has officially exhausted their dating pool? Nothing says friendship like tagging them in a Love Island Australia casting callout.”

Can’t bloody wait to see who they ended up casting!

Love Island Australia returns to Nine v. soon.
