NOOOO: Julia Louis-Dreyfus Confirms S7 Of ‘Veep’ Will Be Its Last

Bad news for those of you holding out hope for four more years of Selina Meyer, HBO‘s incomparable ‘Veep‘ will officially be ending for good at the conclusion of the show’s seventh season next year.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus confirmed the season would be the show’s last in a phone chat with The Hollywood Reporter earlier today.

Louis-Dreyfus confirmed that, while the decision to end the show was a difficult one, the writing staff managed to conjure up a story that felt like the right place to leave things on, and that no one at the show was keen to over-labour the point purely for the sake of producing more episodes.

It became clear that this season should be the last season. We don’t want to repeat ourselves or wear out our welcome. The story has a finality to it that feels end-of-series. It was just a very natural thing. We don’t want to repeat ourselves or be boring.

It’s bittersweet but it’s right. I struggled with it. And then it just hit me. It’s hard to say goodbye to such a good thing. We struggled with this at Seinfeld as well.

I’m not kidding — I really feel this is my baby and I don’t want to mess it up. I would hate to end on a less-than note. That would make me nuts.

The show wrapped its sixth season up in June with Louis-Dreyfus’ Selina Meyer mulling over the decision to run for President again. Season seven, by all accounts, will bring the show to a natural conclusion.

The show has had an almost unprecedented run in terms of critical reception and accolades. The show as a whole has been nominated for the Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy Award for every season of its run, taking out the award the last two years in a row. Meanwhile Louis-Dreyfus has cemented her position as one of, if not the, greatest TV comedy actors of all time by taking out a staggering five consecutive Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Emmy Awards. Both are again nominated for this year’s round of Emmy’s, due to be handed out on September 17th.

While it’s certainly sad that the show only has limited time left, season seven will still feature 10 new episodes about which showrunner David Mandel says he is “so fucking excited for what we’ve got on the board and for fans to see what we’ve cooked up.

Filming for the show’s seventh and final season begins on October 16th. It’ll likely hit screens in April next year.
