American actress and comedian Julia Louis-Dreyfus has revealed she is battling breast cancer, in a statement that also calls for universal healthcare.
The superlatively talented Louis-Dreyfus is regarded as one of the funniest woman in Hollywood, having started out as a cast member of Saturday Night Live, before being cast in the iconic hit Seinfeld and currently starring as the luckless Vice President Selina Meyers in Veep.
In a tweet posted overnight, Louis-Dreyfus announced her diagnoses with breast cancer, saying “1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one.”

HBO, the network behing Veep, which has seen Louis-Dreyfus take home six Emmys for Best Actress in a Comedy, released this statement of support:
Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time. We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep.
