Daily Mail Australia reports that Brennan has launched legal action against the mother-of-two in the Federal Circuit Court for allegedly “adapting and reproducing” her self-published book Playlist.

Following news of the plagiarism lawsuit, the columnist denied the claims, revealing that she’s never met nor worked with Brennan.

“I’ve never met Kari Jade Brennan, or seen her work,” Foster Blake told the publication.

“My book was delivered to my publisher, Penguin Random House, prior to the date that Ms Brennan claims I saw her draft manuscript.”

The Melbourne-based author claims she finished writing her novel in February 2012, then gave it to her mentor to read in April the following year, the Herald Sun reports.

According to court documents, Brennan’s mentor told her she was “really good friends” with the Go-To creator, which is how she supposedly had access to the novel.

“A substantial part of my work has been adapted and reproduced in material where Zoe Foster Blake has reworded my work, but the meaning of those words remains the same,” her claim read.

Brennan claims she was unable to stop the alleged plagiarism because she was not aware that it was happening until it was too late.

She is seeking an account of profits and reimbursement for her legal costs, but she will not seek damages.

The Wrong Girl was published in February 2014 and is still Foster Blake’s most popular novel which was later adapted to a television series starring Jessica Marais.
