Katy Perry Reveals Orlando Bloom’s V-Day Proposal Was A Mid-Air Disaster

Katy Perry has described the moment fiancé Orlando Bloom popped the question, revealing the Lord Of The Rings star was mercifully awkward in the moment. It’s not much, but it is somewhat encouraging to hear how the only guy beautiful enough to portray Legolas can be a bit of a klutz.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Witness singer elaborated on the Valentine’s Day proposal and the exact moment Bloom tried – and failed – to reach for the ring.

“We went to dinner and I thought we were going to go and see some art after dinner,” Perry said.

“But we pulled up to a helicopter.”

After brushing off comparisons to The Bachelor, Perry said “the funny part is we had champagne in the helicopter, and the [ring] box was in his pocket.

And he had written down everything he wanted to say in a note, to divert, right? He’s gonna pull it out while I’m reading it.

So I’m reading it, but I’m hearing the champagne is, like, broken. The bottle’s everywhere, and I’m still looking at the note, because he’s pulling out this box that’s too big for his coat pocket – rips his coat pocket, and his elbow goes into the champagne.

And I’m like ‘no, I’m just reading the note, I know you’re not doing anything’.

Unfortunately for everyone else, Perry said the rest of the night was absolutely top-tier, and included a rooftop party attended by her family. We wish that were not the case, and that we could report her sincere embarrassment at Bloom being even more goofy, but no. He’s still a suave Hollywood superstar whose moments of romantic incompetence are few and far between.

Bastard.

Worth noting, too: Perry said she had a bit of input on the ring itself, which shoots down the fan theory that Bloom handed her a piece of jewellery eerily similar to the one he gave ex-wife Miranda Kerr back in 2010.

Have a gander at the full chat below, and accept the fact that even though Bloom kinda messed up, he still did so in a helicopter with champagne:
