Man Accused Of Random Frankston Assault Charged Over Another Stranger Attack

Ryan Wells, the 32-year-old man accused of randomly assaulting a passerby in Frankston in late July, has been hit with fresh charges over a different assault – again on stranger – in an incident that occurred just six days earlier.

Wells appeared in the Frankston Magistrates Court today, flanked by an extraordinary police escort, where he was formally charged with counts of recklessly causing serious injury and recklessly causing injury over an incident that occurred on July 20th – just six days prior to the alleged Frankston assault – which put an unnamed 33-year-old in hospital for two days.

In this instance, it’s believed that Wells and the alleged victim did not know each other, and were attending the same gathering.

32-year-old Wells was again allowed to walk free from the court on bail after the Magistrate hearing the case approved his bail extension application. His exit from the building sparking incredible scenes with 12 police officers shepherding him through a media pack and into a waiting car.

The July 26th incident in Frankston was captured on CCTV and allegedly shows Wells throwing an elbow at a random passerby on the Napean Highway at approximately 7:40pm. The footage appears to show Wells and his accomplices – one of which was his own brother – laughing about the incident as they walked away from the man who lay prone on the footpath.

The release of the CCTV footage sparked public outrage about the incident, and Wells subsequently handed himself into police in Frankston.

He was already scheduled to face court again over the Frankston incident in September, and is now set to have charges stemming from the incident six days prior in November.
