Vanessa Trump, the wife of Donald Trump Jr and daughter-in-law of the President of the United States, has been rushed to hospital in New York City after reportedly opening an envelope addressed to her husband that contained a mysterious white powder.
The 40-year-old wife of Trump Jr opened the envelope at around 10am local time on Monday at the Manhattan home of her mother, Bonnie Haydon. The letter is believed to have carried a postmark from Boston.
Haydon reportedly handled the envelope before passing it to her daughter, who then subsequently discovered the white powder. Early reports claim that Vanessa subsequently began coughing and feeling nauseous. A 911 call was placed, and Trump, Haydon, and an unidentified third person were taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital as a precautionary measure.
All three victims were decontaminated by hazmat squads at the scene. Sources within the investigating team at the NYPD told the New York Post that the powder was later identified as ordinary cornstarch.
Both Donald Trump Jr and Ivanka Trump have commented on the incident on social media, both asserting that it is an awful act that should not be inflicted upon anyone.
Thinking of @MrsVanessaTrump & wishing I was by her side today. No one deserves to be frightened this way. There is no excuse.

Thankful that Vanessa & my children are safe and unharmed after the incredibly scary situation that occurred this morning. Truly disgusting that certain individuals choose to express their opposing views with such disturbing behavior.

The NYPD, the Secret Service, and the FBI Counter-Terrorism unit are investigating the incident, with no suspect named at this time.
President Trump’s spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders told press at the White House that the elder Trump was aware of the incident and had spoke to his daughter-in-law, who is fine and has been medically cleared of anything more nefarious, but would not issue official comment due to the on-going nature of the investigation.
