Billie Eilish Just Knocked ‘Old Town Road’ From The Top Of The Billboard Charts

For the first time in nearly four and a half months, Lil Nas X woke up without the #1 song on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. The usurper: Billie Eilish.

Billboard reports Lil Nas’ history-making hit Old Town Road was finally overpowered by Eilish’s Bad Guy, ending 19 weeks of chart dominance for the former’s hip-hop/country homunculus.

It’s Eilish’s first #1 hit on the chart, ending her dark, whisper-sung tune’s extraordinary nine-week stint at #2. Eilish, 17, also become the first artist born after 2000 to top the chart.

She went ahead and celebrated on her Instagram Story:

The rapper also gave a shout-out to Eilish on Twitter. If that’s not a modern-day equivalent of passing the baton, I’m not sure what is.

Old Town Road hasn’t disappeared from the public conscience, though. It’s now sitting at #3 on the chart, behind Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello‘s heaps horny Señorita.

It’ll take some doing to cook up a viral hit as perfect as Old Town Road, mind you. Expect to hear that trap-banjo twang for years to come.
