Like eclipsing a bright star, Lil Nas X has now surpassed the god damned ‘Macarena‘ to take out the top spot of longest-running debut single sitting at number 1 on the Hot 100 charts in the US with ‘Old Town Road’.

With his little ditty that has absolutely been stuck in my head for the better part of the last couple of months, Lil Nas X has now found himself sitting very comfortably in the saddle on top of the charts for a whopping 15 weeks. Yee fuckin’ haw, mates.
With 15 weeks at #1, “Old Town Road” by @LilNasX becomes the longest running Hot 100 #1 debut single of all time, surpassing “Macarena” by Los del Río. pic.twitter.com/su3c44kSc3

The staying power of a track that started out being barred by the Billboard country charts until Billy Ray Cyrus stepped in with a feature is undeniable, and with Lil Nas X bringing in both Yung Thug and Mason Ramsey for a remix released last week, the track looks like it’s got the grip to hang in there for a while yet.
Just quietly, lil’ Mason Ramsey’s got the best lyric in this, and yes I have been routinely singing “if you ain’t got no giddy up then giddy out my way”
As per Uproxx, The next hurdle for the track to jump like a champion dressage horse is to stick in the top spot above Billie Eilish‘s ‘Bad Guy‘ (who also released a remix, with Justin Bieber). If Lil Nas X can do that, well then the world is this man’s oyster.
‘Old Town Road’ also joins the coveted club of ‘longest-running number 1 single’ alongside Mariah Carey & Boys II Men‘s ‘One Sweet Day’ and ‘Desposito’ from Biebs, Luis Fonzi and Daddy Yankee. It looks like this will make Lil Nas X the youngest artist in this Number 1 Club, too.
Some big yeehaw energy around this one, folks. The age of rhinestone country trap is well and truly here, get your chaps and spurs out.
