Gorillaz Are Legit Working On Their Own 10-Episode TV Show

Frankly, it boggles the mind that this hasn’t happened sooner.

With a new album coming at us like a freight train, 2017 is already shaping up as an extremely busy year for Gorillaz, but if a new interview is to be believed they’re not merely stopping at the tunes.
The band’s co-founder and animator Jamie Hewlett has revealed that a television show based on the group’s cartoon representations is now officially in the works.
The interview, with UK print publication Q Magazine, reveals that not only is Hewlett hard at work on new artwork, tour merchandise, a broader clothing line, and stage visuals for the group, which is expected to tour extensively in support of the new album ‘Humanz,’ but that he’s also working on a 10-episode TV series focusing on the “virtual” band members of 2D, Murdoc, Russel Hobbs, and Noodle.
Not much else is known about the prospective project beyond that – there’s no release schedule, distributor, or plot information of any kind at this extremely early stage – but expanding the band’s animated universe into a narrative format seems like a logical step for the groundbreaking group.
The group’s long history of innovative music videos has thrown their virtual characters through a range of quite cinematic scenarios, and they’ve dabbled with character backstory by releasing a series of social media ‘books’ bridging the gap between ‘Plastic Beach‘ and ‘Humanz‘ for each of the four animated icons.
The new album is set to hit shelves both physical and digital on April 28th.
In the meantime, enjoy their most recent single and animated offering, ‘Saturn Barz.’ It’s a certified banger, we reckon.
