Here it is, mates. The weirdest story of the week: Chris Hemsworth has signed on to play Hulk Hogan in a biopic about the iconic wrestler/racist’s life. Absolutely unreal.

Hemsworth will say his prayers and eat his vitamins in the upcoming flick which is set to be directed by Todd Phillips, he of The Hangover, Old School, and Road Trip fame.
The film is being pushed forward by Netflix, and is set to be produced by Hemsworth in conjunction with Eric Bischoff, who those of you with faded New World Order shirts in your cupboards will remember as the on and off-screen head of World Championship Wrestling during the Monday Night Wars of the 1990s.
Rather than focus on Hogan’s latter years – which involved the leak of a sex tape featuring some incredibly racist remarks, which lead to him being (temporarily) ex-communicated by World Wrestling Entertainment, as well as a lawsuit against media company Gawker that ultimately caused their collapse – this particular biopic is reportedly set to focus on Hogan (real name Terry Bollea) in his early years, chronicling his rise from bit-player in Tampa, Florida to the leader of the Hulkamaniacs in the then-WWF.
Interestingly enough, Hogan floated the idea of Hemsworth playing him in a biopic six years ago, telling an interview at the time that “I think we need a serious, serious actor that knows what he’s doing. You know who I thought would be good? That guy that did that action movie Thor.”
It’s hard to see how any movie about Hulk Hogan could be done with any semblance of seriousness, given the large man is one of the most thoroughly ridiculous people to ever walk the planet. But given Hogan himself is a supervising producer on the project, I guess we’re gonna find out.
