Taylor Swift Takes Aim At Incessant Speculation About Her Sexuality Via 1989 Re-Release

So, it turns out Taylor Swift isn’t bisexual. Some people reading this might be thinking this isn’t really news because she’s only ever publicly dated men. But amongst the friendship bracelets and cardigans, there’s a faction of Swifties who hold firm beliefs that Taylor is also attracted to women. They call themselves “Gaylors” and for years they’ve been hypothesising that Miss Swift is part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Today, it seems that our pop princess herself has dispelled these rumours once and for all.

For the record, speculating on someone’s sexuality isn’t a vibe. Especially when it’s been as relentless as the speculation Taylor has copped for over ten years. So it is a shame that she felt like she needed to nip it in the bud in this way. But given the fact that she’s now addressing the speculation, it’s important that we shut up and listen to what she has to say.

According to Page Six, screenshots of the written prologue for 1989 (Taylor’s Version) were leaked on X. The post – and any reshares on big sites like Pop Crave and Pop Base – have now been deleted. But if you look hard enough, the rumoured prologue is still swirling around and is quoted in Page Six’s article.

In the original post, the “Cruel Summer” singer apparently explained that she started only publicly hanging out with women after the incessant slut-shamey discourse surrounding any man she was close to.

“So I swore off hanging out with guys. Dating, flirting, or anything that could be weaponised against me by a culture that claimed to believe in liberating women but consistently treated me with the harsh moral codes of the Victorian era,” she wrote, per Page Six.

“I swore off dating and decided to focus only on myself, my music, my growth, and my female friendships. If I only hung out with my female friends, people couldn’t sensationalise or sexualise that right?

“I would learn later on that people could and people would.”

Gaylors, how are you doing? Do you need a second? I think it’s a good time to add that Taylor’s music can still hold meaning to you and your sexual identity even if she’s straight. It’s what you make of it. Okay, moving on.

If we’re all being honest, it’s not the first time that Taylor has denied that she’s dated women or that she’s straight-up gay.

In an interview with Vogue in 2019, she flat-out dismissed the idea that she was coming out in the lyrics of her song “Me!”, or through the release of the undoubtedly very gay “You Need To Calm Down”.

She told the iconic masthead that it was a political statement to show her fans what she truly believed in after years of trying to keep her political perspectives under wraps after her friend Todrick Hall asked her how she’d feel if she had a gay son.

“If he was thinking that, I can’t imagine what my fans in the LGBTQ community might be thinking. It was kind of devastating to realize that I hadn’t been publicly clear about that,” she said, per Vogue.

“Rights are being stripped from basically everyone who isn’t a straight white cisgender male. I didn’t realise until recently that I could advocate for a community that I’m not a part of.”

Rumours that Taylor had been engaging in same-sex relationships can be traced back to 2010. Many Gaylor stans are convinced that she’s dated Glee girlie Dianna Agron and model Karlie Kloss.

In fact, Dianna even refuted the speculation in 2023 when she was asked if she was the inspiration for Taylor’s song “22”.

“Me? Oh, if only! That’s more because of a friendship than being the inspiration for the song,” she responded, per Billboard.

“I would not be the person to ask about that. I cannot claim that!”

When asked about the dating rumours directly she said, “That’s so interesting. I mean, there have been many stories about my dating life that are so wildly untrue. That’s funny.”

So, there you have it. While I would have liked to claim Taylor as a bisexual gal, ya just can’t win ’em all.

If the prologue is legit, I think we can bet that this is the most that tight-lipped Taylor will be speaking on this topic. For now, she’s in a seemingly happy relationship with NFL tight end (it’s still funny, it really is) Travis Kelce and I wish those two the best.

Even if they are straight.
