The Royal Family Has Made A Rare Statement On Prince Harry & Meghan Markle

Britain‘s royal family likes to keep things stoic and maintain a stiff upper lip, and they rarely if ever release statements to the press – they established their personal brand hundreds of years ago and don’t especially need to grow it at this point. That said, the publicity surrounding Prince Harry and his American girlfriend Meghan Markle is such that even the Windsors themselves have caved to public pressure and released a statement of sorts.

While the two of them are pretty clearly smanging on and have been for some time – Markle herself was the subject of a Vanity Fair profile called ‘Wild About Harry!‘ – they’ve been getting even more press lately thanks to rumours of an engagement. Over the weekend, a representative for Kensington Palace, clearly sick of being asked for the millionth time about Prince Harry’s relationship status, gave a terse comment to the media, saying that the royal family “would not give a running commentary on Harry’s life.”

Translated from House of Windsor speak to English, that statement basically confirms that the two of them are shagging their right royal bloody arses off and will soon be having a massive wedding piss-up to which we’re all invited, commoners and posh folk alike. I mean, there’s a bit of subtle nuance in there but I’m choosing to interpret it that way.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Markle would be leaving her role on the legal drama Suits, and relocating from her home in Toronto to move to London and be closer to Prince Harry.

The Daily Star – that’s the one that Carrie Bradshaw used to write for, I’m pretty sure – reports that palace staff have been briefed on an upcoming engagement and “a wedding that will not follow convention.” Per their report, Harry and Meghan are:

“… engaged but they are trying to sort a few things out now, like house hunting for a retreat and other things. It will be up to them to decide when to announce it as they want to do it their own way, which Her Majesty agrees with.”

We eagerly await Meghan and Harry’s convention-breaking nuptials.
