In an announcement that has put an end to literal months of speculation – wow, we really need to find more productive uses for our time – it has been revealed that Meghan Markle‘s dad will walk her down the aisle on her May 19 wedding to Prince Harry.
There has been a good deal of drama surrounding Meghan Markle’s family in recent weeks, and her half-brother Thomas Markle Jr recently inflamed things by publishing an open letter in US Weekly, begging Harry not to go through with the wedding.
Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland will also attend, and will spend the night before the ceremony with her daughter, presumably so Prince Harry doesn’t try any royal funny business. In a lengthy statement today, Kensington Palace said:
The first thing I would like to share is that Prince Harry and Ms. Markle are very much looking forward to welcoming Ms. Markle’s parents to Windsor for the wedding. Mr. Thomas Markle and Ms. Doria Ragland will be arriving in the UK in the week of the wedding, allowing time for Prince Harry’s family, including The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, to spend time with them before the big day.
Both of the bride’s parents will have important roles in the wedding. On the morning of the wedding, Ms. Ragland will travel with Ms. Markle by car to Windsor Castle. Mr. Markle will walk his daughter down the aisle of St George’s Chapel. Ms. Markle is delighted to have her parents by her side on this important and happy occasion.
The wedding is in two weeks, so you can expect a lot of Harry and Meghan updates between now and then.
