O…kay… so apparently Anthony Manton, a racing broadcaster and the #2 villain (behind Andrew “boys will be fuckwits” Jones) of “scientific social experiment” / Hunger Games-style reality TV nightmare ‘Married At First Sight‘, has a secret past.
The shocking secret: he used to be… a model???
At least, he’s definitely got a profile on a Sydney-based talent agency’s online books. The agency says it provides talent of all kinds, including “Models, Actors, Presenters, Extras, Unique Talent, Entertainers, Promotions, Families, Kids, Pets“. I guess that means Our Mate Anth’s showbiz history could be in any of those categories (fingers crossed it’s Pets).
The unearthing of Manton’s youthful days as ‘talent’ comes hot on the heels of allegations that another MAFS contestant, sweet, sensible Sean, was also a paid actor (Channel 9 released a statement adamantly denying this, and to be fair, his acting profile says he’s had exactly zero acting experience).
Still, OK! Magazine, who are the ones who dug up evidence of Manton’s modelling jag, seem convinced that his presence on a talent agency’s books points to the fact that he’s been acting the whole time he’s been on MAFS, and/or he’s only in it for the fame.
Which I’ve got to say, conveniently ignores the truth of the matter, which is that a) Manton’s headshot is clearly from a very long time ago, before his slow transition into the human version of Sid the Sloth from Ice Age, and b) there is no way anyone could appear so convincingly and consistently like that much of a berk if they were merely acting.
Also: why do you think anyone goes on a reality TV show if not for the fame? If he was just looking for love he would have stuck to negging chicks on Tinder.
While you’re pondering the mysteries of people’s television-related motivations, spare a thought for the Mamm talent agency – they are definitely due to receive some very cranky phone calls.
