‘Hunger Games’ Actress Calls Kylie Jenner Out For Wearing Cornrows

Given that pretty much anything Kylie Jenner says or does is guaranteed millions of Instagram likes and blanket coverage, it’s not surprising that a recent photo, in which she showed off her hair in cornrows, drew quite a bit of comment.

Over the past 24 hours, the picture has become the centre of a heated debate, after Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg accused her of appropriating black culture while failing to her her status to “help black Americans.”

In a comment on the post, which at one point included a link directing followers to Jenner’s wig brand, Stenberg said:

when u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter
Jenner later responded to the comments, saying: ‘Mad if I don’t, Mad if I do…. Go hang w Jaden or something,’ in reference to the fact that Stenberg was Jaden Smith‘s prom date a while back.
Earlier this year, Stenberg released a video called ‘Don’t Cash Crop On My Cornrows’ in which she spoke about the cultural significance of the hairstyle:
The original post has drawn 1.2 million likes (a little below average for Jenner) and around 110k comments, with some defending her choice of hairstyle and others criticising her response to Stenberg.
The 17-year-old had removed her cornrows later that day, and posted another picture in which the level of fucks given appeared to be fairly low:
