The Met Gala – a.k.a. the Oscars of Fashion – is finally upon us, as Queen Anna Wintour‘s reign enters its 31st year. The theme? Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons: the Art of the In-Between. The exhibition opens to the public on Thursday, but the celebrity interpretation of the art parades for one night only on the first Monday in May.
The theme is a homage to the 74-year-old Japanese designer and the label she founded in 1969, described by the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute‘s curator Andrew Bolton as someone who “season after season, collection after collection, she changes our eye by upending perceived notions of conventional beauty.”
But here, let the conventionally beautiful show you – with the help of an army of stylists, makeup artists, hair dressers, assistants, agents and managers – their interpretation of Rei Kawakubo’s abstract, architectural designs.
