We all know that you, under no circumstances, make a Mum mad EVER. DO NOT DO THIS. Unless you want the pure, unadulterated wrath of Mum fury upon you, don’t piss off a Mum.
A snake recently learnt this the phenomenally hard way on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, when it tried to take a wee baby possum away for a little snack. Just a lil’ snek snak. Totally (not) harmless.
But my dear snake friend, hell hath no fury like a Mum trying to protect her baby.
Mackay local Christine Birch Williams came across the carpet python trying to kidnap the little poss when she ducked into the backyard after work to water the plants, and watched the attack from the marsupial matriarch that had the snake hightailing it back out of the yard.
When Christine came across the whole bloody ordeal on her pavers, the python was wrapped around the baby, constricting it for a ripper meal, and the poss’ mum was going hell for leather to save her baby.
After some seriously furious clawing and biting – and the baby probably screaming MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAm!!!!! in possum – the snake gave up, defeated and probably still hungry.
Local snake catcher Stuart McKenzie confirmed that the sweet possum bab was doing okay after the snake let it go, despite being strangled half to death.
Let this be a lesson to all animals/reptiles/creatures of prey out there: DO NOT FUCK WITH A MUM. EVER.
