OnlyFans Will Ban Porn, In A Surprise To Sex Workers Who Actually Make A Living Off The Site

OnlyFans is banning porn, Bloomberg reports, which begs the question: what on Earth will people use the site for now?

While tasteful nude images won’t be prohibited, sexually explicit content (in other words, porn) will no longer be allowed starting from October 1.

According to the Bloomberg report, “OnlyFans is positioning itself more as a forum for musicians, fitness instructors and chefs than sex workers.” Sounds a lot like Patreon if you ask us.

“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,” OnlyFans said in a statement to The Verge.

This move is set to be a massive blow for online sex workers. While other sites like JustForFans do exist, OnlyFans is pretty much synonymous with both amateur and even professional porn nowadays.

OnlyFans really blew up in the pandemic, too, with the userbase skyrocketing from 20 million daily users to 120 million daily users in the space of a year.

For the time being, we don’t have much clarity about what the future holds for the platform or its millions of creators and users.

“These changes are to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers,” the company added in a statement.

“We will be sharing more details in the coming days and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines.”

Now we’re probably going to end up with a repeat of the Bella Thorne situation, when the actor controversially set up an account without actually posting any nudes, in turn changing the whole dynamic of the platform and pissing off a whole lot of sex workers in the process.

Meanwhile, people who actually make a living by posting porn on OnlyFans will now have rethink how they work.
