Oh Shit! One Actor Plays Two Characters In ‘Gilmore Girls’ & No One Noticed

So by now a fair amount of you would’ve been able to get stuck right into all four episodes of the ‘Gilmore Girls‘ revival series on Netflix. You’ve mulled it all over, had a real good think about it, made your thoughts on the mythical “last four words” abundantly clear, and are in the process of either putting a pin in it forever, or gearing yourself up for a repeat viewing.

Among the many secrets, nods, references, and other little fan-service nods the four 90-minute “seasons” have is one you’d be totally forgiven for missing.
As it turns out, the new series managed to put a familiar face front-and-centre, but not in the way you might’ve expected.
(A warning, very minor plot details are ahead, so consider this a big ole’ doot of the Spoiler Horn).
You’ll remember that in the new series Emily Gilmore miraculously found herself a maid she actually likes, even going so far as to bring her along to Nantucket when she moved after Richard’s death.
That maid Berta might not have been able to speak a lick of English (or anything that even approaches something resembling actual language, which is a much larger issue for another day, TBH) but if she looked familiar to longtime viewers, your eyes were not playing tricks on you.
As it turns out, actor Rose Abdoo was enlisted to pull double duty on the series time around, having previously and concurrently filled the role of Gypsy, the Stars Hollow mechanic.
One person. Two different characters.
Boom.
Abdoo had played Gyspy on-and-off since the second season of the OG show, but the role of Berta was a new one and seemingly came about by pure chance.
According to Lauren Graham, the yarn goes that Abdoo read the part of Berta at an early table read of the series before any casting decisions had been made for the character. Abdoo’s turn as the Gilmore matriarch’s hired help was so dang good, however, that producers signed her up for the role virtually on the spot.

There you go! There’s SECRETS EVERYWHERE in Stars Hollow, friends.
