NBC Can’t Stop Ordering New Comedies From 30 Rock/Parks & Rec Creators

There’s an old adage in TV comedy that goes something along the lines of “If it ain’t broke, keep throwing money at Tina Fey to make new shows until the end of times.”

Despite a bold experiment to move away from sitcoms after the end of the modern golden era that birthed unto us the holy quadumvirate of 30 Rock, The Office, Parks & Recreation, and Community, the eternally struggling peacock that is NBC has decided to run back into the familiar, welcoming arms of an old dance partner by upping its commitment to yucks once again.
And not only is going back to comedy, it’s going back to some very familiar faces, by commissioning new shows from the creators of both 30 Rock and Parks & Rec.
NBC has ordered two new shows – the first of which comes from Michael Schur – who co-created Parks & Rec and is currently the head honcho on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The project (tentatively titled The Good Place) has been given a series order, and centres around “a woman wrestling with what it means to be good.” Schur apparently laid out the entire first season for NBC executives, who responded with enthusiasm. According to an NBC statement, the show will be bringing “another strong, funny, complicated female character to TV.”
Meanwhile the other project comes from the very familiar duo of Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. The unnamed project has a pilot order “with the intention of going to series,” and will focus on a volatile mother-daughter relationship that gets further complicated when the overly-involved Mum gets an internship at her daughter’s workplace – a cable news network.
Tracey Wigfield, Fey’s 30 Rock protegé who co-wrote the show’s finale, will be writing the new series.
Fey and Carlock are also at work on season two of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which NBC initially ordered to series, before selling off to Netflix.
New shows from Tina Fey and Michael Schur? GOOD THINGS ARE HAPPENING, YOU GUYS.
