Hey Melbourne, You Really *Did* Just Endure The Warmest Night In Bloody Ages

At PEDESTRIAN.TV, we strive to deliver you the news with a modicum of impartiality. Are there times when we expound on our favourite Stars Wars background characters? Of course. But when objectively important facts come our way, we try our best to deliver ’em without personal interjections.

It’s not always easy. The delightful members of our editorial team are sometimes impacted by the content included in our articles, and that’s definitely the case when our Melbourne-based news editor clocks on at 7am during the “Christmas” “holidays”, immediately after sweating through the city’s hottest night in nearly two years.

It me. I feel rank.

Anyway.

The Bureau Of Meteorology reports that metro Melbourne just endured its warmest midnight since March 9, 2016, with an absolutely swampy temperature reading of 30.2C.

With a tone that is quite frankly far too cheerful, the Bureau added that a solid 99.8% of metro Melbourne midnight readings fall below 30C. Wonderful.

Stunningly, the temperature actually climbed from midnight, peaking at 30.3 degrees at 12.30am. An overnight minimum of 24.4C was recorded at 6am, but at time of writing, the temperature was already rising to a projected daytime maximum of 31C.

A cool change and showers are expected for the remainder of the New Year period, meaning it’s unlikely the Victorian capital will sweat through another manky night. If you’ll permit one more indulgent moment of subjectivity: One is enough, tbh.
