FUCKEN BRR: Parts Of Melbourne Just Had Their Coldest Morning In 32 Years

Pray for your Victorian friends, rest-of-the-country folks. Winter is hanging on for dear, grim-ass life down here. The past two mornings have been bone-chillingly cold, despite this time of year ordinarily being the start of a period where people start having actual hope of wearing shorts again one day soon. In Melbourne in particular, the mornings have been so cold that they’ve eclipsed marks not seen since before John Farnham released You’re The Voice.

Yep.

At Melbourne Airport, temperatures dipped below freezing, hitting a low of -1.9 degrees at 6:30am this morning, causing frost to crest planes on the runway. That alone represents the coldest morning recorded at the airport since 1986. 32 years ago.

Essendon Airport didn’t fare much better, with temps spiralling even lower to a morning minimum of -2.4. Which is, to quote the scientific nomenclature, fucking cold as shit.

This morning’s bone-chilling start saw temperatures in Melbourne city dip to an overnight low of just 0.9 degrees at 7:00am this morning. That alone makes it the coldest temperature recorded this late in the year since 1957, which is a fairly remarkable statistic.

Frost and ice were a fixture of the morning, kissing grasslands and icing up car windscreens across virtually the entire city region.

The warmest overnight temperature recorded anywhere in Victoria by the Bureau of Meteorology last night was at, of all places, Wilson’s Prom, which managed a positively balmy 7 degrees.

The good news is that the bastard-like morning starts appear to be over, with an overnight low of 5 predicted for tonight, followed up by lows of 10 and 10 to round out the week thanks to a band of rainy weather rolling through.

From there, with Spring officially starting on Saturday, the weather looks set to start getting slightly warmer.

We’re almost through it, mates. We’re almost bloody there.
