Cursed Political Homunculus Mark Latham Is Joining One Nation

You could paint a portrait of the state of former opposition leader Mark Latham by listing the various places he has been fired from in recent memory. You could do it by drilling into the bizarre saga where he tried to pretend his twitter account, @RealMarkLatham, wasn’t him. Hell, you could talk about his appearances on an anti-semitic, homophobic, white nationalist podcast that was disavowed by even senior LNP fartface George Christensen. Sure, you could do any of those. In the interests of saving time, though, I am going to instead sum up how Mark Latham is doing by pointing out that one of the subsections on his Wikipedia page has the header “Incident at Hungry Jack’s“.

No longer doing terrifying, inhuman handshakes in the halls of power and seemingly no longer making a pretend TV show with his friends, Latham’s day job appears to be soaking up his nearly $80,000 government pension and tweeting barely intelligible nonsense about the movie Birdman. When he hasn’t been doing that (I’m sure it’s very time-consuming), he has made a weak show at undertaking a political comeback. In May of 2017, he joined David Leyonhjelm‘s Liberal Democrats but left the party in September this year without having run in any elections.

During that time, he lent his sumptuous, velvety voice to some One Nation robocalls in the Longman by-election, fuelling speculation that he would be joining the party. After Latham quit the Liberal Democrats, Pauline Hanson shot down suggestions that Latham would be running for One Nation at the next election.

Seemingly having nowhere lower to fall, Latham has finally fulfilled his destiny and bottomed out: he’s officially joining One Nation. According to News Corp, Latham will be joining Pauline Hanson’s One Nation as the head of the party in NSW — although he will not be running for the Senate. Latham is apparently set to make his big announcement tomorrow on 2GB with his cookbook co-author Alan Jones.

Who’s excited to hear Latham rattle on even more about ‘political correctness’ and ‘cultural Marxism’? Woo-fuckin’-hoo.
