Dribbling font of bad ideas Mark Latham has had a big year. He’s gone from being fired from Sky News for being a dreadful arsehole, to getting thoroughly roasted by USyd students for being a dreadful arsehole, to now being the latest “high profile individual” to join David Leyonhjelm‘s Liberal Democrats party, presumably so he can continue being a dreadful arsehole, this time with company.
High profile individual has joined the @LibDemAus. All revealed on @Bolt_RSS, @SkyNewsAust tonight 7pm. #auspol pic.twitter.com/8yhkGahk9Z

Considering Latham spoiled the big reveal a mere 20 minutes after Leyonhjelm tweeted the above, things are already looking great for the party’s future.
On The Bolt Report tonight, 7pm, discussing wrongness of Dastyari/Shorten Labor and my decision to join the Liberal Democrats = free speech!

mate
As The Australian has noted, this high-publicity move has people speculating on whether Latham is planning to return to Australian politics. Leyonhjelm told the paper:
“He’s obviously very capable. He’s a smart capable guy, You couldn’t rule out that possibility.”
The man himself had this to say on Facebook:
“I support 80-90 per cent of the Liberal Democrats platform, pretty good for someone with strong views formed over a long period of time.“So I have joined up and want to play a role in fighting for our national values, based on personal freedom and responsibility.”
Labor has been quick to put the kibosh on any potential future reconciliation with Latham, as evidenced by this uniquely satisfying tweet:
NSW ALP has banned Mark Latham for life. (ie – should he ever try to re-join). Motion passed tonight. Bill Shorten backed them doing it.

A little theatrical, sure (and a little late), but I ain’t complaining.
Perhaps the best thing to come out of this gobsmacking swerve back into the political section is the photo that The Australian chose to run alongside their article. Behold:

Do with that what you will, my friends.
