MARGE, THE RAINS: East Coast Weather Got Pretty Bloody Woolly Last Night

Well, we hope everyone along the East Coast battened down the hatches yesterday and last night, because the weather got real wild and real woolly.

Warnings came for another East Coast Low, and boy howdy, did it come – the rain and wind were crazy over parts of Queensland and New South Wales.

According to the ABC, residents on the Sunshine Coast said that a storm that resembled ‘a tornado’ swept through early last night, and ripped the roof off several homes in Mooloolaba

Different areas from Caboolture all the way down to Jimboomba all recorded up to 70mm of rain within an hour. While conditions have eased this morning, the SES is still warning residents of local flooding.
Emergency services said they had over 300 calls for help across south-east Queensland, and there were 9000+ blackouts across the area.
Senior firefighter Steve Holland said that despite all the warnings, residents were still driving into the flood waters and were in need of rescue:
“At this stage we haven’t rescued anybody out of those vehicles however we still have vehicles in water and it would appear no-one is heeding the message ‘if it is flooded forget it’.”
Emergency services in NSW also had their work cut out for them last night, staging six successful rescues. Flood warnings were issued in 13 different areas of NSW, with the Illawarra and south coast region expected to be hit the hardest.

We’ll update this story as more information arises.
Stay safe, everyone.
