The incident occurred at the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity just outside of the Clemson University campus in Clemson, South Carolina, during an annual Homecoming weekend party.

A throng of people were reportedly jumping up and down on the ground floor level, when the floor beneath them suddenly gave way and fell into the basement below.

Twenty-three partygoers were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while a further seven took themselves to hospital for precautionary reasons of their own accord. Miraculously, none suffered serious injuries.

Witnesses at the scene reported feeling the floor heave and move under the weight of the crowd, who ignore warning signs and continued jumping.

Multiple social media accounts have posted angles of the floor collapse, with the footage not only showing people spilling into the hole, but the immediate aftermath as well.

Police, fire, and paramedic officials attended the scene, which occurred just after midnight on Saturday night/Sunday morning (US time). They confirmed no one was trapped in the wreckage of the floor.

An investigation into the cause of the collapse has been opened, and remains on-going.
