Aussie Man Left Convulsing In Pain From Venomous Snail Because ‘STRAYA

In news that’s only going to solidify our rep for being the country with the most amount of wildlife trying to kill you: a Queensland man was rushed to hospital after being stung by a snail.

25-year-old Henry Moore was wading in shallow waters at Whitsunday Island this week, when a cone snail stung his foot.

“It was just immense, immense pain,” he said. “I was convulsing in pain. I was screaming in agony. I couldn’t even move because the more I moved the more the venom spread through my blood flow.”

The predatory cone snail has enough venom to kill a human, because this is Australia and even snails are out to straight up murder you. National Geographic memorably called them “the underwater version of a tank,” thanks to their hard spiral shell, flexible treads and the ability to actually fire off venom torpedoes.

They can cause swelling, vomiting, muscle paralysis, vision impairment, respiratory failure and, of course, death.

‘STRAYA

Mr. Moore, who is a skipper with Tongarra Sailing Adventures, was airlifted out of Whitsunday Island with said respiratory problems, getting treatment at the Mackay Base Hospital.
