It Sure Seems Like Tyler, The Creator, A$AP Rocky & Rihanna Are In A Messy Love Triangle

I am fully convinced that it seems like Tyler, the Creator is in a messy love triangle with bestie A$AP Rocky and the “love of his life” Rihanna. Sound crazy? Yeah, I thought so, too, at first, until I started putting all the pieces related to Tyler’s new album, Call Me When You Get Lost, together. Now, it’s the only thing that makes sense. Lemme explain.

In a new live concert this weekend, Tyler, the Creator revealed that A$AP Rocky was originally supposed to be on ‘CORSO’, the second track on the new album. Tragically, however, Tyler claims that Rocky didn’t end up making the cut because he has been ignoring the ‘See You Again’ rapper for the last five months. Ouch.

“I made that beat for me and [A$AP] Rocky but that n**** ignored me for five months,” Tyler claimed in a viral clip from the performance.

“So the middle part where DJ Drama yelling and I’m not rapping, that was for Rocky but the n****….”

Tyler then stops himself and chokes on his words, throwing his hands up in the air in a defeated stance and turning away from the crowd, before he tries to move on to the next song. But, while short, that moment has stayed with fans (including me) longer than the entire hour-long concert.

If true, this is kinda a pretty big fucking deal. I mean, A$AP Rocky and Tyler, the Creator are long-time besties and creative partners. While the pair first came from conflicting hip-hop collectives, they’ve had an incredible creative partnership since they first joint headlined a tour in 2015.

They’re frequent guests on each others’ albums (Rocky appeared on Tyler’s ‘Who That Boy’ on Flower Boy and Tyler was featured on Rocky’s ‘Telephone Calls’ off Cozy Tapes Vol 1. Friends).

When A$AP Rocky was briefly imprisoned in Sweden in 2019, Tyler tweeted: “no more Sweden for me, ever.” Then, when Tyler, the Creator accepted the Wall Street Journal’s Music Innovator Award in 2019, A$AP Rocky introduced him for the award as his “best friend.

Their friendship has been documented by Genius videos and various fan-made compilations and edits. Hell, back in February this year, District Magazine called their bromance “hip-hop’s most wholesome friendship.”

So, given all that, after I watched Tyler’s recent concert, I couldn’t stop thinking about why A$AP Rocky allegedly ignored Tyler, The Creator for five whole months. Then it hit me.

Back in May, Rocky revealed that he and Rihanna were dating. In an interview with GQ, the ‘Babushka Boi’ rapper called her “the love of my life. My lady.” Coincidence? I think not.

Side note: before you start calling Rihanna the Yoko Ono of Tyler and A$AP’s bromance, back TF off, okay? We as a society need to stop blaming women for men’s creative differences. That said, looking at another track on Tyler’s new album, it really does seem like there’s more to this than we’re led to believe.

In ‘Wilshire’, Tyler sings about having a crush on a person who fancies his friend.

“You told me you felt the same but you got homie you dealin’ with,” he raps.

“The problem is he my friend, but if I’m honest, I’m really hopin’ you drop him… Though I haven’t seen him in months, shit, it’s rare he never hit back.”

Now look, I’m not saying that Tyler, The Creator definitely had feelings for Rihanna before she started dating A$AP Rocky and that things became immediately awkward when Rocky and Riri started dating… but, when you look at Tyler and A$AP’s changing relationship recently, the lyrics in one of Tyler’s songs and A$AP’s new romance, it genuinely really fucking seems like it.

If anything, *something* appears to have gone down between the three of them. Or, at the very least, A$AP Rocky has allegedly outed himself to be that guy, gal, or non-binary pal in your friendship circle who drops off the group chat whenever they’ve got a new beau.
