The brotherhood of the skivvy is no longer.
Three members of the beloved children’s entertainment group (whose popularity spawned Kylie Minogue duets, 30 Rock parodies and a legitimate trademark claim to vigorous finger pointing) have finally called it a day. Red Wiggle Murray Cook, Yellow Wiggle Greg Page and Purple Wiggle/serial snoozer Jeff Fatt have hung up their skivvies in favour of a younger crop of stars including the group’s first ever female performer.
Blue Wiggle Anthony Field (who “loves it too much,” according to a spokesperson) will stay on to tutor three of the group’s former backup dancers: Emma Watkins (we’d call her a Wigette if it didn’t sound an underwhelming acid trip), Simon Pryce and Lachlan Gillespie, who will don the yellow, red and purple skivvys respectively.
The changeover will take place at the end of the year, after which Jeff finally gets to sleep til midday now those other jerks aren’t around.
