I came across one of the greatest videos on the internet yesterday courtesy of Twitter user @delilahdrag. He’d said that Mariah Carey invented Christmas, before a concerned Boomer interjected, “okay, there is Jesus.” Thus ensued a glorious conversation about whether Ms MiMi herself did in fact conceive the festive season. It certainly brings festive fire to my usually-dormant heart. Check it out.

It’s pretty much fact that “All I Want for Christmas Is You” rules the Christmas period each and every year, and this glorious Twitter video subsequently prompted me to check how the tune was tracking on the global Spotify charts.

And you know what? It’s fucking 9th on the Spotify’s Global Top 50, meaning it’s among the 10 most streamed tunes on the damn planet. We’re four days into December and #Mariahmageddon has officially arrived. Time to brace yourself kiddies… it’s only going to get worse.
Wham!‘s “Last Christmas” has also cracked the top 20, as the 19th most streamed song across the globe.
Could “All I Want for Christmas Is You” finally overthrow Tones & I‘s reign atop the charts? It’s bound to be neck and neck, in my humble opinion.
