John Legend Is Now A Hair’s Breadth Away From Capturing The Elusive EGOT

Hollywood’s cast of EGOT winners could well be getting richer come September, thanks to this year’s cast of Emmy nominations and the infinite talents of John Legend.

Legend scored a duo of Emmy nominations for his work on Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert, including as a co-producer on the spectacular via the Outstanding Variety Special (Live) category, and one for his acting work as Jesus Christ in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie award stakes.

Should he take out one – or both – of the awards, Legend will have secured the precious and highly sought-after EGOT: A recipient of an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony.

Legend, through his ample musical talents, has scooped 10 Grammy Awards throughout his career. In addition to that, he picked up an Oscar in 2014 with Common for Best Original Song, which he won for Glory, the theme song to the critically acclaimed film Selma.

He also took out a Tony Award in 2017 as co-producer on Jitney, scooping up the gong for Best Revival of a Play.

Interestingly enough, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert has the potential to make two additional Hollywood heavyweights EGOT winners, with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice both on the verge of scoring the missing Emmy that will complete their respective sets.

As far as Legend goes, however, his in-laws are certainly cheering him home.

Incredibly good Dad areas.

The Emmy Awards are being handed out on September 18th (Australian time).
