Hear: New Ghoul “3Mark”

“3Mark” is the new jam from Sydney four-piece Ghoul and though it’s vaguely reminiscent of their debut EP “A Mouthful Of Gold”, they’re now embracing the darker beat genre stuff that’s kinda ubiquitous now but not in a way that’s overly pastiche-y or contrived. That being said, Ghoul is pretty much a vehicle for Ivan Vizintin’s fucked up sex croon and whether it’s pitch-shifted and/or looped beyond recognition or weaving all organic like twixt pops, clicks, weird doom synths and oceanic reverb, it’s the emotional tie that keeps us interested. Fuck that dude can sing. Like the best proponents of the collage/dub step/whatever genre du jour that’s currently gripping the Western World, Ghoul manage to balance atmosphere and rhythm without sacrificing an iota of weirdness which should reward repeat listens and render this totally appropriate for the club setting.

“3Mark” is the first taste of Ghoul’s new mini-album ‘Dunks’, due January 2011 on Speak N Spell. But that’s not all Ghoul fans! The mini-album is but a precursor to the band’s debut full-length – due sometime in 2011. Can’t wait to hear that one.
