Raise Funds & Your Heart Rate This Mardi Gras At The Annual ‘Rainbow Run’

The 40th annual Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras is officially in motion.

The festival, which runs from February 13th to the climactic parade on March 3rd, is shaping up to be the biggest in history. It goes without saying, we have a lot to celebrate this year. Cher is performing. Motherfucking Cher, people.

While there are some festival’s events are firm favourites, there are a few on the fringe that are absolutely worth getting around. One of those is the Rainbow Run.

It’s a fun-run that’ll be taking place on Sunday, 25th February that raises money for the Gay and Lesbian Rights Lobby (GLRL) who work tirelessly advocating on behalf of the LBQTI community at a state and federal level.

The run, which is an official Mardi Gras event, aims to bring the community together through exercise to “run for love”.

It takes place across a 2km course with participants choosing to complete a 2km, 4km or 6km circuit. And it’s not a regular fun-run, it’s a cool fun-run. The event’s famous drag queens will be scattered throughout the course, squirting water guns and singing hallelujah, to cool down and amp up the runners.

A regular ticket will set you back just $50. Students and folks over 60 can score a ticket for $35. If you get a crew together, you can buy a bunch of tickets at a discount.

Of course, the whole point of the run is to raise funds, with profits going to incredibly worthy causes like Fear-Free Schooling and efforts to push law reform.
