The Final ‘Fantastic Beasts 2’ Trailer Provides First Hint Of Gay Dumbledore

Here it is, witches and wizards: the final trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald before the film’s release on November 15.

The cast of the Fantastic Beasts spinoff including Katherine Waterston (Tina), Ezra Miller (Credence), Dan Fogler (Jacob) and Alison Sudol (Queenie) along with the queen mother of everything J.K. Rowling introduced the trailer on the Today show.

“My brothers, my sisters, the clock is ticking faster,” Grindwald‘s voice narrates through the beginning of the trailer. “The moment has come to take our rightful place in the world where we wizards are free. Join me, or die.”

Dumbledore then says he “cannot movie against Grindelwald,” as the trailer shows Jude Law unveiling the Mirror of Erised, which shows the user their deepest desire.

Rowling previously revealed that Dumbledore’s desire was to be with the young Grindelwald who he fell in love with when the two were both teenagers, meaning that this is what he sees through the mirror.

Law’s Dumbledore transforms into his younger self for a brief moment and the two characters join hands on opposite sides of the mirror.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Law recently tackled the topic of heavy debate: will Dumbledore be gay in the film?

“That was a question I actually asked Jo and she said, yes, he’s gay,” he revealed. “But as with humans, your sexuality doesn’t necessarily define you; he’s multifaceted. I suppose the question is: How is Dumbledore’s sexuality depicted in this film? What you got to remember this is only the second Fantastic Beasts film in a series and what’s brilliant about Jo’s writing is how she reveals her characters, peels them to the heart over time.”

Adding, “You’re just getting to know Albus in this film, and there’s obviously a lot more to come. We learn a little about his past in the beginning of this film, and characters and their relationships will unfold naturally which I’m excited to reveal. But we’re not going to reveal everything all at once.”

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald opens Nov. 15.
