Sophie Lowe who stands as the second Aussie actress to play the titular Alice in Wonderland protagonist in the past three years, offers a new take as the cult Lewis Carroll character in the first official trailer for Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, a new series airing on the Aussie loving U.S. network, ABC.
The show is a direct spinoff of fantasy drama series Once Upon a Time and couches the original Carroll story in a parallel narrative similar to that employed by its parent series, one in which the inquisitive English heroine returns to stuffy Victorian London from Wonderland only to be institutionalised by her father who thinks she’s either lying, mentally ill or smoking the devil’s lettuce.
The network has given the series (and Lowe’s career) every opportunity to succeed in America, gifting it with a prime time Thursday night time slot opening for the celebrated Shonda Rhimes dramas Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal.
Other confirmed cast members include Michael Socha as the Knave of Hearts, Peter Gadiot as Alice’s love interest Cyrus and John Lithgow as the voice of the White Rabbit. Fall down the rabbit hole below…
