He may have spectacularly and hilariously bashed the hell out of FIFA on Last Week Tonight a few days ago, but it’s John Oliver‘s infectious enthusiasm for the game of football/soccer, and for the World Cup, that’s shining through the brightest at the moment.
Despite his misgivings about the world game’s administrators and their not-even-remotely-subtle corruption, when it comes to talking about the game itself, and what happens between the whistles, Oliver’s passion and excitement is clear. His is the kind of all-or-nothing, every emotion on the line, pure, unadulterated fandom that sport is so good at cultivating, and it’s wonderful.
He stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers where he spoke, at some length, about the upcoming World Cup, his beloved England‘s chances, and of his own club Liverpool.
If you can make it all the way through this clip without being at least a little bit pumped up on the upcoming month of sport, I’d check yourself quickly for a missing pulse.
