According to the most concrete news source in the history of Journalism, Facebook status updates, MTV host Ruby Rose and model Catherine McNeil are planning to tie the knot.
The engagement was announced earlier this year when Rose posted a status update that read: “So in love can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with u baby.” “U” being 20 year old model and former Freja Beha Erichsen flame Catherine McNeil whom Rose has known since they were teenagers.
Friends of the couple have since confirmed the engagement after the pair announced their intentions to wed at an intimate dinner in Melbourne last Sunday. Also according to Rose’s Facebook relationship status, which is more accurate than any silly Wedding Certificate could ever hope to be, “Woof Woof Rose is engaged to Meow Meow McNeil”.
Since first going public with their relationship late last year the duo have attracted rabid media attention and though same-sex marriage is currently unrecognized in Australia, they hope to wed within the colder (and more progressive?) borders of Canada. Yes it’s sapphic tabloid fodder but Rose and McNeil’s high-profile union will hopefully alter perceptions of gay marriage in Australia so that the next lesbian music/fashion power couple that announces their engagement via Facebook can actually hold a recognized wedding in this country.
