Mad junkie vibes coming from the most liveable city in Australia this week thanks to some Tumblr destabilising pictures from the set of The Rover revealing that the luminous wonder torso of Robert Pattinson has been caked with dirt and turned into an emaciated harbinger of the coming lad zombie apocalypse. Pattinson, in desperate need of a toothbrush, dons yellowed teeth prosthetics, a closely shorn do and the finest of Saucony footwear in this first look at Aussie David Michod’s Western-inspired followup to the critically acclaimed Animal Kingdom.
The film, written and directed by Michod and extrapolated from an idea conceived by he and Joel Edgerton, also stars Guy Pearce (Memento, LA Confidential, Prometheus), Scoot McNairy (Killing Them Softly, Argo), Gillian Jones (Oscar and Lucinda, The Tree), and previous Animal Kingdom players Anthony Hayes and Susan Prior.
The film is set in a dystopian near-future and follows Pearce’s Eric, who has
left everything behind and sets off on a hunt to find the ruthless gang of criminals who stole his car and possessions. Along the way he enlists the help of Rey (Pattinson), the naïve and injured
member of the gang who was left behind and teams up with Eric because he’s on the hunt for something. But what? Purpose, shelter, a discarded orchy bottle? You’ll have to watch to find out.
