Canada’s Drag Race winner Priyanka has revealed that she caught COVID-19 earlier this year, and in a wild twist, she reckons that she got it from the host of the show, fellow Canadian drag queen Brooke Lynn Hytes.
Priyanka made an appearance on the latest episode of Nicole Byer‘s podcast Why Won’t You Date Me?, when she revealed the news. “I got COVID because Brooke Lynn Hytes gave me COVID,” she said, joking that “white people ruin everything.”
The pair toured Canada earlier this year, performing at drive-ins along with several other queens from the show. Hytes tested positive for COVID in late September, and had to miss the last few shows of the tour as a result.
Priyanka then came down with the virus as well, and while she was asymptomatic, her partner – with whom she has since broken up – had “all the symptoms.” She told Byer:
“Put your fucking mask on and wash your hands. I’m lucky I didn’t get bad symptoms. I have asthma too, so I could have been not like Canada’s Drag Race Superstar, I could have been dead on the floor. You don’t know how it’s going to hit you, you don’t know how it’s going to hit your parents. There are so many things that can go wrong.”
