As part of his ongoing campaign to raise awareness of himself, Meghan Markle‘s dad Thomas has revealed the details of a heated phone call he shared with Prince Harry, in which he hung on up on his future son-in-law after being caught in a lie about some paparazzi photos.

Speaking with the Daily Mail, 74-year-old Markle said that when he had his first phone conversation with Harry, the prince’s one piece of advice was to avoid dealing with the paparazzi. “Harry told me that I should never go to the press,” he said. “That it would end in tears.”
Soon after, a series of very obviously staged pictures of Markle showed up in the tabloids. When Harry asked about them, he lied and said he had not made any deals with the photographer, but this lie was exposed several days later, when the Daily Mail revealed that he was paid to pose for the shots.
By that stage, Thomas Markle was in hospital recovering from a heart attack, and had decided not to attend the royal wedding. When Harry called him again, the prince was clearly annoyed, telling Markle: “If you had listened to me this would never have happened.” Markle responded:
“Maybe it would be better for you guys if I was dead … then you could pretend to be sad … Then I hung up.”
Yikes. Several months later, he admits that Harry was right to criticise him all along. “I’m not mad at Harry. I’m not mad at Meghan,” he said to the Daily Mail. “I love them. I wish them well. But as for the rest of it, fuck it. I’m done.”
Duchess Meghan Markle and Kensington Palace have not made any public comment on this latest drama, which is probably a wise move, all things considered.
