The New ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Trailer Is Too Magical For A Tuesday Morning

We have to keep it real with you. At time of writing, it is not even 7am on an average Tuesday morning. The author of this piece is alone in an inner-suburb office, alternatively gazing at a too-bright computer screen and the brick laneway outside. The desk is adorned with an empty coffee cup and the remnants of muesli. Suffice to say, the day has not begun with a significant amount of whimsy.

But good God, the new trailer for Mary Poppins Returns is trying its hardest to insert just a little bit of post-war joy into the world.

The clip stars Emily Blunt as the occult child-minder, who brings equal measures of stern British governance and terrifying magical abilities to the Banks family household.

Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Lin Manuel Miranda, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, a collection of sprogs, and original Mary Poppins star Dick Van Dyke round out the cast.

All of the above seem set to be enchanted by the powerful British sorceress in the course of the film, which is slated to premiere on December 19. Peep the trailer below, while we go make another coffee:
