Instagram To Unveil Video Capabilities (More Twitter Mimicry)

There were ‘Verified Accounts‘, then hashtags (ingeniously disguised as ‘Conversations’, as transparent as Amanda Bynes’ bong denials) and now the Zuckerberg-owned Instagram will roll out a video service to compete with Twitter’s Vine app.

This source is widely credited for reporting three weeks ago that the video feature was being tested internally, but could not confirm whether those beautifying filters would play a role. It is also unknown hitherto whether the video service will take the form of an update or an entirely separate app. What do we know? The videos will apparently be between 5 and 10 seconds in length, potentially a whole four seconds superior to Vine capabilities. Marketing Land report that last Friday, there were more Vines shared on Twitter than Instagram photos; the first time Vine links have conquered Instagram links via Twitter.
Instagram’s 100 million monthly active users synchronously upload around 40 million photos per day, which is thrilling in itself, but who can argue with the overwhelming pressures to rapidly innovate when results like these are so gratifying?
TechCrunch report that the feature could roll out as early as June 20 on the back of an important Facebook convention set for the same day.
