Woof, that was a challenge and a half.
There were three pantries to choose from in the elimination challenge, from the ingredients each judge cooks with in their everyday life. A bit eclectic, but a bit of everything at least.
Although they couldn’t use the usual staples or regular pantry, contestants could literally cook anything they wanted. It turned out as chaotic as it sounds.
Sarah, having won the previous immunity challenge, was free to watch from the gantry and perhaps heckle if she wished.
But instead, her gantry commentary basically solidified her place as the fourth, friendly judge in our eyes. The Marcia Hines of MasterChef, for just an episode, if you will.
Dear @masterchefau can Sarah @S_Tiong be a judge she’s so supportive #MasterChefAU

#MasterChefAU Is it just me or is Sarah T. a great narrator for a cooking show.

#MasterChefAU seriously how can you not love Sarah, she is human sunshine

The challenge begins, and as usual, everyone is immediately in way over their head. Too much ambition, not enough time.

That is, except Reynold. The dude was a gun and it was clearly his challenge to lose.
#MasterChefAU The amount of elements that Reynold has made already in that time is super impressive! He’s a machine! In a good way!

Reynold is a machine, the Desertimator #MasterChefAU pic.twitter.com/ODlOdQ8puB

Reynold making dessert is a bit like watching Federer play tennis in his heydays. They just go into this zone and they’re just robot-like perfectionists… it’s amazing to watch #MasterChefAU

Meanwhile, Hayden copped a fair bit of criticism for using *gasp* chips from a bag. It’s almost as if they were among the ingredients in the pantry. Hmmm.
You don’t want chips out of a packet, don’t put them in the pantry #masterchefau

This episode also featured two (2!!!) hibachi grills, courtesy of Amina and Ben M.
Judging by their use, it’s impossible for Masterchef contestants to go an episode without the use of at least one hibachi grill #MasterChefAU

Hibachi – the Masterchef contestant we weren’t expecting this season! #MasterChefAU

Can the next challenge on Masterchef be a no habachi night? #MasterChefAU @masterchefau now that would difficult
— meg (@kissyharrry) April 26, 2020
Somewhere in Australia a whole Arab family is yelling obscenities at Amina for cooking her kebabs on a hibachi and she probably deserves it.#MasterChefAU
— pitamø (@M0SCHIM0) April 26, 2020
This season of Masterchef is just one big ploy to make me buy a hibachi grill and it’s working

And don’t think Sarah didn’t have a word or two to say.
“Finish it in a pan if you have to”
-SarahBut but…the…..hibachi. #MasterChefAU

And while we’re on the topic of inanimate objects stealing the show, who could forget the Vespa?!
Extra vespa shot! #MasterChefAU

But back to the FOOD. Feast your eyes upon Ben U’s uhhh… dessert, and wonder like the rest of the country WTF his presentation was about.
