Fyre Fest Founder Ja Rule Is Planning A New Festival, Which Is A Solid Idea

Fyre Festival, Ja Rule

Today in ‘really excellent ideas’, sub-category ‘what could possibly go wrong?’, rapper Ja Rule, the co-founder of the disastrous Fyre Festival, has announced that he is planning to launch a new, similar festival at some point in the future.

Ja Rule admits that he hasn’t actually seen the wildly popular Netflix or Hulu documentaries on the demise of Fyre Festival, saying that he “lived it” and that he therefore doesn’t need to “watch it”. Despite having “lived it”, however, he remains confident in his event-planning abilities.

Speaking with TMZ recently, he said that the fallout from the failed Bahamian blow-out has been “painful” for him, but that “in the midst of chaos, there’s opportunity.” One such opportunity is the creation of a new, seemingly quite similar festival.

“[Fyre] is the most iconic festival that never was,” he told the publication. “I have plans to create the Iconic music festival, but you didn’t hear it from me.”

Fyre Festival, if you recall, was launched off the back of an app that would allow people to book celebrities to come and play concerts. This new venture is coming off the launch of a new celebrity booking tool called Iconn, that appears to do the same thing.

Ja Rule admitted to TMZ that the two apps are “kind of similar”, but that “you have to understand the app was separate from the festival … Different teams working on the app than the festival and the whole nine.” Yes, that definitely makes sense.

Given how spectacularly burned everyone was by Fyre Festival, it is unlikely that any of the models and inflencers who pocketed big bucks to promote the first event would do the same again, and no artist would want to be associated with Fyre 2.0.

Still, stranger things have happened, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see whether anyone is willing to pay actual money to attend this event if and when it ever gets off the ground.
