Donald Glover’s TV Comedy ‘Atlanta’ Gets Full Season 1 Order, Coming In 2016

…But today is a special day.

We’ve known about Donald Glover‘s semi-autobiographical TV series Atlanta for almost two years now, with the most recent news on the hip hop sitcom confirming its pilot episode being granted by FX this June

But as it goes in the ~industry~, pilot episodes literally make or break a series – it’s a gamble that, for the sake of the show’s future, has to be tight. You can assume that Atlanta’s pilot—directed by Hiro Murai—most definitely killed it, as FX announced overnight that Atlanta has been green-lighted for its first 10 episodes.

ICYMI, Atlanta stars Donald Glover, and its synopsis goes like:

Atlanta revolves around two cousins on their way up through the Atlanta rap scene whose opposing views on art versus commerce, success and race will make their quest anything but easy.

Glover will play “Earnest ‘Earn’ Marks,” a college drop-out who reconnects with his long buried ambition and sets out to seize the life he imagined for himself when his estranged cousin becomes a sudden star.”

President of FX’s original programming Nick Grad said Atlanta was the first time Glover’s talents—as a musician via Childish Gambino, as a screenwriter via 30 Rock and as an actor—were truly married in one project: “Atlanta draws on Donald’s considerable talents as a musician, actor and writer to give us something unique.”
