Right well Chrissy Teigen, after a number of many years in the spotlight, has dropped an awkward one on us by informing the people that we have been mispronouncing her last name.

It all started after a Twitter user posted a video of Kyle and Jackie O discussing the pronunciation of Ariana Grande‘s surname. If you were unaware, we’ve also been mispronouncing the artist’s surname as she revealed in an interview some time ago. Turns out, Ariana’s surname is pronounced Grand-ee – like “that’s grand” plus ‘ee’… Grande.
I guess, since everyone’s just been pronouncing it the Starbucks way, Ariana just stopped correcting us somewhere down the line.

As fans hurriedly replied with their surprise and guilt over mispronouncing Ari’s name, a very dedicated Chrissy Teigen fan decided to make us feel worse by informing the majority that we’ve also gotten Chrissy’s surname wrong which she confirmed in a tweet.
“Last name is tie-gen not tee-gen.”
word! gave up a long time ago. last name is tie-gen not tee-gen https://t.co/M9EvS9pTrW

Oh.
Although, as a fan pointed out, when Chrissy pronounces her surname she says it like the rest of us: “But wait…when you say it YOU say tee-gen!”
To which Chrissy replied:
I know. I even correct people when they say it correctly. it’s all v effed up https://t.co/aJkweIiL7H

And thus a little eco-system of people with mispronounced names were created as they all banded together to bond. Also in the eco-system were people who, like Chrissy, rather just go with it than correct another person (me).
Yesterday I thanked an Uber for taking me to the COMPLETE wrong place and immediately payed for a different one

Have had the same neighbour for over a decade and daily greeted him “hey frank!”, he always smiled and waved. Found out last year his name is Brett.

If you still don’t believe her, here’s Chrissy’s mum confirming we’re all bad stans.
