Britney Spears‘ younger sister, Jamie Lynn, has experienced every parent’s worst nightmare. Over the weekend, her daughter was involved in a serious accident that has left her in a critical condition.
While it was initially reported that this happened while the family were on a hunting trip together, the true course of horrific events were revealed today.
8-year-old Maddie Briann Aldridge was riding her ATV on the family’s Louisana property. To avoid going over a drainage ditch, she “overcorrected” and drove the vehicle into a pond, according to local police.
Jamie Lynn, 25, and husband Jamie Watson, were nearby and watched the entire incident unfold.
The statement issued by Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards exposed more details about what occurred, including the devastating information that her parents – along with other family members – unsuccessfully tried to retrieve Maddie from the water.
“The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV’s safety netting.
“Within two minutes, Acadian Ambulance Services arrived and assisted in freeing the child from the cold waters.”
Maddie is currently in “stable but critical condition.” Her grandfather, Jamie Spears, shared a brief yet poignant statement, calling out for everyone to “pray for our baby Maddie.” Britney took to Instagram with a similar message.
